Audio and Electronics

AUDIO EXCELLENCE YORKVILLE You don’t have to be an audio geek to shop here, but if you are, you’ll fit right in. Owner Peter Zylberberg has been selling high-end stereo equipment for more than 36 years and he knows his stuff. There’s nothing snobbish about the place though, and Zylberberg makes a special effort to hunt down best-of-class components at all price ranges. A real find is the I-deck ($350) from premium band Monitor Audio; it makes your iPod sound like a $1,500 stereo. Full systems start at about $2,000, but the price can accelerate quickly, especially if you’ve got your eye on the beautiful curves of the Nova SF-80 loudspeakers (pair $15,400) manufactured by Sound Fusion of Toronto. Hidden in the back of the store (and on the lower level) are seven listening rooms that allow shoppers to experience any of the products before they commit. Zylberberg also takes old stereo equipment on trade-in, and bargain audiophiles drop by regularly to check out high-end cast-offs.
